Consumers are eating unhealthy meat.

In this blog i will offer my views  on  what i have learnt in class  this semester aboutr the rearing and slaughtering of animals for consumption by the Industrial Food System.
Firstly, the animals are raised in confinement, they hardly move around. They stand on their urine and feces for long periods of time. Also they inhale and exhale the same air most of the time which makes them unhealthy. They are given antibiotics to boost their growth which enable them to gain weight at a faster speed. The cows are fed corn which is toxic as a result it makes them sick within a short period of time.

Another burning issue is the way the animals are slaughtered for consumption by consumers.Very often the animals try to escape death, but are caught and thrown into boiling hot water alive and remain in the hot water tank to suffocate and die.Sometimes ,cows are slaughtered  on the ground and left to bleed consciously, instead of being placed on a hanger so the blood can be drained properly.

Furthermore, the government oversight body which is placed to examine the meat before  it goes to the market is failing in its duty to do so, because of  the Industrial Food System powerful and influential political connection.Imagine the system receiving billions of tax payers dollars as subsidy every year, only to pollute the air and water which the state and city has to pay for its cleaning.

In conclusion more Americans are getting sick(e.g) obese, diabetes and other health related  diseases by eating unhealthy meat produced by  the system and as a result the universe is getting more polluted with the animals waste. Therefore the Industrial Food Systems  are killing consumers ,while making hugh profits.

Humans are destroying Earth.

In this discussion i will  use the film" The Eleventh Hour " to prove that humans are  destroying the planet earth, hence they will cause a catastrophic demise of  themselves. The film clearly states that scientists have agreed that global warming is  a result of greenhouse gases CO2 of which fossil fuel is the leading comtributor.According to  Richard Heinberg, the environmental system is polluted ,by the burning of  oil, especially in poor neighbourhoods and more people are contractimg asthma.as a result of the breathing the polluted air.
The destruction of  trees  in many countries for lumber without replanting also contributes to global warming. For the leaves are the main  source of intake of carbon dioxide. Therefore the earth is getting warmer with the gas  trapped in the air. As a result there is a change in the weather pattern universally. Some countries have excessive rainfall while others are having drought. This in turn causes destruction to crops and lost of livestock for which humans depend on for consumption to survive.

The  pollution problem is a burning issue, currently in classdiscussion ,Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation(CAFO) is also contributing to water and air pollution. The urine  and feces af animals are let into rivers which destroys the environment.A classical case is Tyson  Foods of Arkansas, accorging to classdiscussion.

On one hand industrilizations are moving forward rapidly and destroying the environment while on the other hand humans are suffering from the effect of  such  actions which will eventually lead to an extinction  of humans, because if the environment is unhealthy, living things will subsequently suffer and die.

Sugar,salt and fat are reinforcers.

In this blog i will discuss the connection between  overeating and the CAFO system. The end of overeating written by David Kessler explains why some people are vulnerable to sugar, salt and fat. People who are vulnerable to palatable food  are more likely to overeat because  of the sugar, salt and fat which act as a stimulant  As a result  they  are addicted to those kind of food and overeat, adds on weight  and  becomes obese.Generally. their homeostatic system should  maintain their energy balance.which in turn controls their weight. However ,because  their brains are altered by the stimulant sugar, salt and fat, the message they are receiving ,frequently is  similar to that of a drug addict.(One who cannot exist without  drugs). In their case it is more sugar, salt or fat which are reinforcers in their palatable food. The CAFO system is full of fatty meat, for example the cows are fed corn which has  plenty protein.

On one hand those consumers who can resist  eating excessive sugar, salt and fat are benefitting from their habits, they are unlikely to  be obese. On the other hand those consumers who are addicts to such food are the victims of the reinforcers.

English as a major.

In this blog i will discuss how  having English as a major is  important in today's society.I will use notes i took at an event held on 05-01-2012 at La Guardia Community College.

There were five speakers including Michael Napolitano an Attorney-at Law.They all argued that having English as a major is essential  for effective communication in today's  society. I am in total agreement. Especially living in New York State where the population is diverse, having a major in Engl\ish will allow you to better understand fhe different cultures of the people.

In addition,English teaches you to  comtinue to learn. For we are living in a world where technologies are comstantly changing. To understand and use those technoligies English is required. So having English is an advantage,.

The Treatment Of Animals.

In this blog i will discuss the torture of animals. I will use  a video  from "Farm To Fridge"  by Mercy of Animals. The animals are being tortured on the farm by some male workers. The tail of several cows were cut off without administering any medication at all, they were left to bleed with their injury.

Young boar pigs were taken and slammed to the ground so as  to die because they  take longer to grow for consumption.Male baby ckicks were killed  in such a cruel manner  by hitting against the ground by worker because they do not lay eggs..

It  is noteworthy to say all of this is  being done on farms today in America  so, that the Corporation can make more profit  In the case with the cows it was fond for the workers.

The CAFO Concern.

In this blog i will discuss the  Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation (CAFO)I will use The CAFO Reader by Daniel Imhoff. Imhoff , says since fast food restaurants are expanding, there is a greater demand for meat. Hence the CAFO system was implemented in 1950,the main reason is to produce meat at a faster rate.
The animals are given antiobiotics to increase their growth. So the old system of rearing animals in open pasture cease to exist. They cannot compete with CAFO, for it is too costly and takes longer to produce  meat for the market.

The CAFO operation is not without controversy, the animals are raised in confinement in large quantity. They hardly move around and  sits on their feces and urine throughout their growth.

In this blog I will discuss the CAFO system. In the book The CAFO reader, written by Daniel Imhoff. It say, that since fast food restaurants are expanding there is a greater demand for meat, hence the CAFO system was implemented. The transition began in 1950, the primary reason is to produce meat at a faster rate, the animals will be confined and given antibiotics to increase their growth. So the older system, was depleted. No more raising of animals in pastures. It is too costly and takes longer to produce meat for consumption. The CAFO system is not without controversy. Lmhoff
